The Founder's Journey

Kelly's Story

I've been planning trips my whole life. The drive to build itineraries started young. In high school I was mapping out road trips across the United States for my parents' company, figuring out the routes, the stops, and the timing. Somewhere in there I realized I didn't just love traveling. I loved building the trip itself: the logistics, the flow, and the small details that turn a good trip into one people never stop talking about. That drive never went away. Over time it grew from something I loved doing into what I do.

That passion only deepened after I married and had kids. We started taking our boys on international trips when our youngest was five, and with my own children along, planning wasn't something I could get wrong. So I honed the craft, trip after trip, country after country. Today my sons have visited more than 50 countries, and every one of those trips taught me something about keeping young travelers safe, engaged, and havi kids will carry for the rest of their lives.

My career behind the scenes spanned more than two decades managing hospitality operations, coordinating multi-country European itineraries, and troubleshooting high-stakes logistics in real time. Day in and day out, I oversaw the complex machinery that keeps travel running smoothly: coordinating private transfers and cross-border rail connections, partnering with boutique hoteliers, resolving unexpected schedule disruptions with quiet precision, and managing the human relationships behind every check-in and connection. It was demanding, detail-intensive work that taught me how to anticipate friction points long before they happen and how to navigate diverse European environments with calm confidence. That deep professional grounding—the practical expertise and problem-solving instincts honed over twenty-five years in the field—is what I personally bring to every trip I design today.

For twenty-five years, friends and family have asked me to plan their trips, because they knew I'd handle the details they couldn't see and quietly solve the problems they'd never even hear about. Handcrafted Trips is that instinct, made into a real business — built especially for one specific moment: a young person's first big journey into Europe. I carry the entire weight of it, so a parent can let their kid go and still sleep soundly at night.
